The final installment of the Broken Earth Trilogy was as spectacular as the first two, as most of this strange world's mysteries come unraveled.

I found the ending to the story quite satisfying, if slightly predictable. A bittersweet story of motherhood, as it has been from the very first line of the first book.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the flashback-style explanation of the world the book is set in, though I admit the author's vision of a futuristic science-fantasy world is incredible. Where the characters of the present-day story have great depth (it's my favorite part of these novels), I felt the characters from the flashbacks in this book were a bit flat and shallow and their motivations a bit unclear. This, combined with an onslaught of new information, confused me on many occasions. I would've preferred deeper explorations of the characters we were already more familiar with.

That's not to take away anything from the stunning lines this book contains, for which alone it is worth reading. Obviously recommended for fans of the first two books.
