What a wonderful, delightful little book!
It was really funny, magical and lovely to read. I really do hope there will be more books about Emily Vole and the magic store.

A very funny book about an orphan girl found in a hatbox, a witch, some fairies, a spirit lamp and a very large talking cat. There's more than a touch of Ronald Dahl- ish humore, slightly dark and definitely dangerous, in that one runs the risk of being turned into a pink bunny at any time.
The audiobook, narrated by Simon Russell Beale is fabulously done. It was a joy to listen to- I only wish it were longer. Thankfully, there are more books in the series.

Too British for me? Too dark and odd? I really only enjoyed the beginning and the illustrations.

Short but good, nice children's story with the orphan heroine and horrible adopted family, saved by magic. Liked the bunnies. Would make a good film!

So cute! So fun! So British-y! This is a great Roald Dahl read-a-like -- in a lot of ways it's very similar to Matilda. It would make a fantastic read-aloud in a classroom (or at home), and there's enough open-endedness to make me curious about the next book. There's a lot of potential for awesomeness in future books when your characters include a gigantic talking tortoise-shell cat named Fidget, fairies (who aren't fairy-sized), and a fairy detective agency.

I'll recommend this widely to 1st-3rd graders, especially.

3 1/2. Pretty cute - sort of classic feel to it. I'll read the next one in the series for sure.

I was between a 3 and a 4 on this but it's so fun and it reminds me a bit of Polly Horvath who I love. Quirky for sure!

Continuing to test out books for my niece in future. This one is a very enjoyable and I loved the drawings, especially the ones of Mr. Fidget and the shop. Mr. Fidget is a great character.
