I love this series so much I’ve read all the books out currently and they just keep getting better. Overall if you’re ok with the TW then this is a great read but if not this book is not for you because it’s pretty graphic with many things.

these two are FREAKS and idk if i’m about that life!!

i really don’t care for any of the pun or vulgarity-based humor, probably because it’s a translated worm and just doesn’t hit for me but also because it just keeps. happening. every now and then the book made me laugh! but never was it because of one of the many dick jokes.
i also don’t love this back-and-forth of one doing something nice for the other but them both being too stubborn to realize anything. how long is this supposed to go on??

now these two are freaks and i mean criminally and like… whatever! but Oh My God…

Definitely not for the light-hearted as a depicts a very toxic relationship dynamic compared to other danmei, as well as blurred lines regarding age and non-con dynamics. Which can be surprising and off-putting if you're unaware of it going in (that's on me for not researching prior lol, only having heard good things from people who've read the other danmeis I've read). I've heard that this series is one of the series in danmei where you have to trust the process, but it is still a very dark romance regardless.

It was hard to decide what fit for this sort of warning but I feel like this is important to know if you wish to read, but beware this warning contains spoilers.

It is stated that Chu Wanning has feelings for Mo Ran, whom while currently mentally over 30 (unbeknownst to CW), is still 15 at this point. Which for modern sensibilities can be a bit rough even though in the historical context 15 is of age (even I found myself uncomfortable over it, but was told to trust the process) . However, besides kissing (all of which were not initiated by CW and usually due to illusions) CW has not approached MR in any sexual or romantic context as of book one. And feels ashamed and disgusted by his own feelings. So it is up to you whether that can be a deal breaker

As volume 1 of 11, I didn't expect this to be tie any ends or progress the plot and it really didn't. The character development was all over the place, the way characters reacted to and pursued events didn't really make sense, and a lot of the internal monologue gave me whiplash. That said - it's a very enjoyable, chaotic mess of a book. 

Yes, the romance is dark. Yes, the characters are dark and violent. Despite that, it's a very funny story (even though as an English reader I'm sure I'm missing out on a lot of jokes) and I enjoyed the characters enough to stick with it.

Do keep the trigger warnings in mind - there's violence and sex from the first chapters onwards, and while the descriptions aren't incredibly graphic there are a lot of detailed descriptions/mentions.
