This is my least favorite Harry Potter book, but it's still pretty good!

Oh how I wished to be a Parselmouth!
I used to stand in front of a mirror and try making those serpent like 'hiss' sounds Harry does in the movie.

Although this is slightly better than the first book in the series with a little more action and a bit less predictability, there is still a long way for it to go. The story is a bit more complex (yes I understand that it's written for children but with the all the hype I still expect something a little better) but the characters are still rather one dimensional and lack any sort of depth. And this is dispite Rowling showing us Malfoy in private with his 'friends' for the first time where you would hope that you would see another side to him or maybe even learn a bit about why he is the way he is. But no, he is no different to how he is usually, we don't get any backstory, history or moaning about his father, nothing. Huge disappointment there. And lets not even discuss Gilderoy Lockhart, who is a little unbelievable in my opinion, or Dobby the House-elf, who is not only incredibly annoying but slightly distracts from the main story.
Once again the story itself was quite enjoyable, a little less predictable but I saw a mile off who Riddles was and how can anyone believe THAT about Hagrid, I mean really!?!?! The climax was more detailed this time, which did add a bit more to the scene and actually made it tense and exciting (despite knowing the Harry was blatantly going to win, there are five more books after all). Overall not a bad read, slight improvement on the first so going in the right direction, not particularly taxing but a nice bit of light entertainment none-the-less.
