Highly readable nonsense. Filled with mildly unlikable unrealistic characters waxing philosophical in a slightly twisted lyrically poetic way.

amrita is a heartfelt story about Sakumi, a young woman whose sister, Mayu, passes away so suddenly. in the course of her life too, Sakumi lost her memory due to an accident. she feels lost and tries to find comfort and meaning in her life. along the way, she meets different people who are also dealing with their own pain and grief, and bound with her families in such unique ways.
the story moves at a really slow pace, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. but this slow pace gives you time to think and understand the characters' feelings. the conversations between characters are simple but meaningful, giving you a sense of closeness with them.
this book talks a lot about grief and how it can change a person. yoshimoto explores the different stages of grief and shows how it can be a way for people to grow and find hope. through Sakumi and her friends, the author reminds us that even in the darkest times, there is still a chance for healing and connection.
yoshimoto's writing style is simple and beautiful. she shows the reader the sadness and the small moments of beauty in life. the way she describes things makes you think about deeper meanings and gives you a chance to connect with Sakumi's journey.

I almost gave up on this book 20 pages in but I'm glad I decided to buckle down and give this book some time and patience.

Just not for me, no plot and too many sentences that seemed to think they were profound but I just didn't get.
