No Kitten Around (Magical Romantic Comedies #5) by R.J. Blain – THEY LEFT HIM ALONE IN THE DARK FOR TWO YEARS!!???!!! I must have mentally yelled this at the universe while reading this book dozens of times. Most of these characters are due some bubble wrap, but I swear Reed deserves to be cuddled by the universe! Someone should have taken a bat to Reed’s family though! Haruph. Happy Reading!

I started this because I was told the opening bit with the kitten was hilarious but that the rest of the book was terrible. I agree that the opening was hilarious but vehemently disagree about the rest of the book. I really enjoyed it! It was witty, geeky, and lively, and had a surprisingly nuanced and interesting take on PTSD, solitary confinement, anxiety, and simply working through some serious relationship problems. I liked both main characters and pretty much all of the secondary characters too. I've never read anything else by this author but the world building was fun and though the metaphysics were a little suspect and shaky in places, it hung together when it mattered. And the elven marriage ceremony was perfect. I plan to read at least one more book by this author to see if this was a flash in the pan or another fun author discovery. I'm really intrigued by the one with the llama on the cover... [b:Hoofin' It|36221528|Hoofin' It (Magical Romantic Comedies, #2)|R.J.
