It’s been a while since I read something that piqued my interest. I haven’t really read a lot of crime novels, but this one would probably be a good start to those who don’t read much of it either. However, it should be noted it’s not exactly thriller-esque, but the characters were funny, despite the heavy issue that, you know, a cold-blooded murder took place. Definitely recommend!

Mixed feelings - i liked the concept and the story of the crime, but HATED the main character and feel like the book could have been 20-30% shorter. I also hate that we still have no idea what happened when the MC was younger - I don’t think we necessarily need all the answers, but some form of progress would have been better.

I’ve just discovered though that the series continues with different characters and we never find the first book’s answers so for that i won’t be continuing with the series - far too frustrating.

Wow. When I started reading this book and saw that it was over 600 pages, I figured it would take me forever to finish it. Not the case. I could hardly put it down.

Detectives Rob and Cassie are assigned to a murder case that involves a 12-year-old girl. As the book goes on, parallels are drawn to a case from 20 years ago that may be similar.

I love the characters in the story… They are messy and complicated and relatable. They make good choices and they make bad choices, and even when you're yelling at the book wondering why they're doing things, part of you understands it too… Because we're human.

The story was good and full of twists, and unlike many mysteries, I did not have it all figured out within the first half of the book. I'm looking forward to reading more of these.

Really liked this book! Again I just love Tana's characters, they are so well thought out and her writing is just beautiful! Again though, I wasn't totally convinced by the ending, and I wish there had been more build up or clues revealed early on when it came to 'who dun it' instead of a lack of progress in the middle and then everything coming together quickly in the end. Will read more by her as I love these characters she creates!

I honestly wish I hadn't read this, for a lot of reasons, but a big one being that I now want to read the sequel.
Also, reading this made me realize just how much I should not have read The Treatment by Mo Hayder back in 2017.

Meh. I kept reading hoping something exciting would happen but that never came. I liked the characters which made me want to finish to book. It could have been better!

Got to what, page 60 I think? Couldn't finish. Too boring and slow to be honest. I'll try to give it another go at a later time. Until then, it can sit pretty alone on my DNF shelf as the first book I haven't finished.
