Was too young to know what was going on at the time in SF, but I remember seeing things on the news, in the paper. This was awesome to fill in those gaps, from at least one perspective. Great local history. Makes me wish they made a few seasons of a show like the Wire, but to tell these stories.

This book wasn't the best written thing ever, but it was a page-turner. San Francisco was a crazy town. I bring this book up again and again in conversations and shock my friends with some of the shit that went down in the city (literally, in the same houses and blocks and neighborhoods that we live in and walk/bike down every day.)

Being from the Bay Area, this book was emotional to read. The history of San Francisco and all it endured in the 1970s and 1980s is traumatic, inspiring and demonstrates resiliency and tolerance. I loved all the things I learned and was mad at some of the players who tried to stop progress. I still love to visit The City and it remains one of my favorite places. Written like a story, this non-fiction was a pleasure to read. 5/5⭐️

A must read for anybody curious about the bay area history / culture and how the different interest groups formed the city and how the summer of love/hippies lead to the current tech landscape here.
