The concept totally had me hooked-- magic, mystery, and a family shrouded in secrets. However, the plot didn't pull me in and I didn't feel compelled by the characters. There wasn't enough chemistry, between friends or love interests, to drive the story line forward. I wanted more a creepier, more suspenseful read and even the big "mystery" of the magic in the book wasn't some driving secret-- the big reveal seemed anticlimactic and out of place. I'll happily hand out to students wanting a fun, Halloween-ish read, but won't recommend to adult YA readers.

I remember reading this in high school and really enjoyed it. The plot kept me engaged and I still remember some parts of this story years later.

I really, really wanted to like this book. I even bought the second prior to reading to first. The covers were beautiful. The synopsis sold me. But from page 1 all I could think was this was a Twilight knockoff. I usually give a book 100 pages before I DNF, I gave this one 167 pages & I just couldn’t pick it back up. Very disappointing.

I really enjoyed reading The Graces. I can see why people wouldn’t like it as it skirts around some overdone cliches however I believe it manages to maintain a unique perspective that is very engaging. I always enjoy books where you can never truly trust anyone, not the characters or the narrators and this is one of those books. Our narrator, River, is very introspective and asks lots of questions about human nature that cause the reader to do some thinking themselves. I enjoyed the world building and character descriptions as well as the witchy magic aspects of the book, they were slightly cliche but had a depth to them that redeemed them. All in all I found the story entertaining and engaging and am looking forward to reading the sequel, 3.5 stars (rounded to four)

Weirdest ending to a book I’ve read for a while. There’s a lot of teenage emotions to juggle in this one!

I'm giving this somewhere between a 3 and a 4, but a little more then a 3.5. Like 3.7 or 3.8 (liked it but won't buy a physical copy unless it's on sale or the cover is too beautiful)
The characters were my favorite. I loved Summer and Wolf. I liked Fenrin, when he showed up, but was a little peeved at him towards the end. I was more peeved at River then anyone. River was ok, but her inner monologue was a drag sometimes.
It takes a good 40-60% of the book to get to the plot. It's quite the long set-up but one hell of an ending.
Overall, I liked the book, and will recommend others to try it.
