Well, I wouldn't call this book sweet but I would call it a mess. It really threw me for a loop about halfway through.

For the first half of the book, I enjoyed the food descriptions (my stomach was grumbling the whole time) and I even enjoyed some of the romantic chemistry. However, even during this "lighter" portion of the story, I was irritated by the heavy focus on the lust between the two rather than any actual emotional connection. They were so drawn to one another's bodies but it seemed like there was little-to-no communication and so the tension was 100% sexual and nothing more. That was frustrating.

Add in the fact that the primary "conflict" wound up being
the surprise pregnancy trope, and this is just a recipe for disaster for me. I really couldn't get over what a nasty taste that left in my mouth. Secret pregnancy + zero communication or real depth = a super annoying story.

I wound up listening to almost the entire book in one day and I'm glad that's all the time it took because if it had lasted any longer, I would've DNF'd it and moved on. I've been really excited about reading the third book in this series but now I'm super hesitant. I'm hoping that the next two novels will redeem the bitterness I have towards this one.
