Average. I don’t think horror graphic novels are really my thing, but I liked the concept of all the keys. This definitely kept me interested.

Bad writing, worse art. None of the characters are very sympathetic or likable. Joe Hill’s understanding of sex/gender through the “gender key” is incredibly dated and weird. The teenage boy giving an adult trucker oral was really unnecessary and gross.  Seems like Joe Hill cares more about delivering shocks than an actual story.

I was warned that this book series was much more violent/scary than the TV and that is very true. If I hadn't seen the series first, I probably would have stopped reading and I think I will stick to Netflix for this one. The art and violence just did not engage me.

I really like this story and can't wait to read more. Elements of cultural appropriation (such as Kinsey's dreadlocks) age this comic.
