I was super interested in the first three chapters, exploring the history of miniature portraits, eye portraits, and how they were used. I was interested in the exploration of intimacy and who was doing the gazing. But she lost me in chapter 4. Any arguments that are rooted in Freud and his brethren are based on totally wackadoodle made up concepts. She based her analysis on concepts of human growth and development that have no evidence to hold them up.
