This was a sweet book, but I found it majorly lacking in personality. Predominantly in the main character, Hannah, which made it difficult to really connect with the story. As its told in two alternating timelines defined by a single choice (stay out with her ex or go home early with her best friend, Gabby), that sort-of only added to the disconnect I felt like.

The one relationship in the book that I really loved was the only constant in both timelines—Hannah and Gabby’s friendship. I liked one MMC far better than the other, though neither had me in my feelings, as they say. Pretty predictable story arcs on both sides.

However, this is a really optimistic, hopeful read. Good if you’re wanting something light complete with not one, but TWO happily ever afters. It read quite fast, too, so that was a plus.

This was really good. It was super interesting to see Hannah’s life unfold in two vastly different ways. I wasn’t sure how it was gonna end, but having finished it I see that it was an exploration of how our simple choices can send us in vastly different directions. So it didn’t have any mind-blowing ending or anything, but that wasn’t the point. We just got to watch Hannah’s simple decision lead her to two incredibly different lives. Definitely thought-provoking!

TJR you’ve done it again. This book was so good and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The writing style is just so wonderful and the story and the ideas are so beautiful. The only thing holding me back from giving it a five stars was that I didn’t relate to the character, which isn’t necessary, but it meant i wasn’t as emotionally invested. It was still a brilliant book. When it was revealed that
Spoiler Hannah was pregnant , Hannah got hit by a car, and that Mark was cheating
my jaw dropped and I had to stop reading for a bit, in a good way!!!  Definitely such an interesting book!!!!

Fate or not, our lives are still the results of our choices.”

Hannah Martin doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life. After ending an affair with a married man, she moves back to where she grew up in LA to stay with her best friend, Gabby, and her husband. Shortly after returning home Hannah goes out to a bar to meet up with her high school boyfriend, who she still wonders if there’s something between them after all this time. When Ethan asks Hannah to stay, her life veers off in two directions: the Hannah that stays with Ethan and the Hannah that leaves with Gabby and her husband. Those two lives are played out in alternate chapters: how much of our lives is by chance or choice? Are soul mates real?

While this novel was written for adults, I could see an older teen enjoying it so that’s why I chose to write a book review on it. Reid is a favorite author of mine so now I’m dipping into her back catalog since loving her newer releases and this book does not disappoint. The idea that one small choice can cause our lives to go in totally different directions is a concept I think about a lot. Fans of the movie Sliding Doors will love this book. I believe Hannah’s outlook on life regardless of which version she’s living in was inspiring. The friendship between Gabby and Hannah was also incredibly sweet. I adored the audiobook as well and loved both lives for Hannah.
