5⭐️stars, how awesome is this story! I love that Sabaa Tahir picked up right where Book 1 left off. Elias, Laia, Helene, The Commandment- they are all so very vibrant and deeply layered characters. The story begins in the middle of the action and I feel like I was finally able to take a breath about half way through the book.

The goods- Each character is so unique in their voice. I never wondered who was speaking, or whose mind I was in. It's seamless and there is so much happening you'd think it would get jumbled. Their journey is full of fear and adventure, and I'm sold. Completely hooked. I want a silver armlet now too and a set of scims.

The not so goods- completely my own opinion but I was pretty upset with betrayals and the deaths. It's part of the story flow, sure. But it still stings when you like them.
