I almost need to wait a few days to see how I really feel about this one to rate it. I loved the mystery. I was caught up in it from the very beginning. I especially loved when it got to Sarah's story until it got very sad and disturbing. I ended up staying up most of the night to get through that part knowing I would have nightmares. I found myself constantly thinking about it when I wasn't reading it, thus was trying to read it every chance I had. I also liked how it was all resolved in the end. Overall I want to give it 5 stars, but I'm holding back because of the disturbed and frustrated feelings it still left me with. I'm having a hard time getting it out of my mind and moving on, but is that a good thing?

Wow, thank you good reads for recommending another fantastic author! I shall read Diane Chamberlain's books (along with Kristin Hannah and Jod Picoult). This was my first of hers and it was a riveting read. I guessed some of the storyline, but not all, and was very impressed. Recommended.

Someone recently recommended Diane Chamberlain to me as a "southern Jodi Picoult." Although I don't usually read Jodi Picoult any more (I like her all right, but I just became weary of her morally ambiguous plot lines), this description of Chamberlain was enough to pique my interest in reading one of her novels.

This story was surprisingly intriguing enough that I could hardly put it down. I question the plausibility of the conclusion, but the story was entertaining enough that I can overlook it. A deathbed promise, a mysterious suicide, a mute child, a psychiatric hospital, and government intrigue are some of the multiple storylines going on in this story, and somehow they all manage to fit together.

A brilliant book that I really enjoyed. I loved sarahs life story that was sandwiched between laura and emma's. Unfortunately I guessed one of the twists but I was still highly entertained!

How do you describe a whirlwind of a story..... Wife loses husband, daughter loses voice, mother puts child in hiding, father gets "lost".... Amazing turn of events that leaves you smiling at the end. A "hiding" child finds her mother that doesn't know her, a child finds her birth dad, and a g=daughter finds her "real" father. Loved this story all the way through, even with the strange brother-in-law.

Far fetched is an understatement, but an enjoyable time filler all the same.

Took a little too long for the denouement, then it was suddenly over. Still good though.
