This is a great, clean, exciting sci-fi adventure.
[a:Eoin Colfer|10896|Eoin Colfer|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1254336426p2/10896.jpg] created an adventure filled futuristic world, with complex characters, and many twists and turns. It was lots of fun to get to know Cosmo, watch him become a part of the Supernaturalists, and follow them on their many great adventures.
This is a recommended read for MG and YA readers who enjoy sci-fi.

Violence: This book has a lot of death, violence and cruelty in it.
Orphans are experimented on, and not given basic human rights. People are threatened by death, badly injured and killed. There are scenes with gruesome accidents. Cosmo himself nearly dies, and is given robotic plates in his head, and his skin patched up.
Also, the entire book Cosmo is chasing supernatural creatures called Parasites who suck the life out of injured people.
Romance: clean
Some casual flirting. In one scene Mona refers to boys as Sweethearts. Cosmo misunderstands, and Mona explains that they are in the Sweetheart gang.
Mona and Cosmo also have an agreement where they kiss each other on the cheek each time they save the others' life. This happens a couple of times.
Religion: We hear that Ditto believes there is an afterlife. Once a joke is said about Santa in a Xmas pageant, and it's said that only a couple million people still celebrate it.
Other: Mona has DNA tattoo strands from her former gang. There is also a scene where a boy in only shorts has hypnotic tatooes covering his body.

This was one of the first post-apocalyptic novels I read and I remember being confused and intrigued at the same time when I start it. I kept reading and the feeling of confusion faded and the intrigue grew. Well done Eoin Colfer, you've written a wonderful novel!

A gritty tale set in the dystopian future. It’s much darker than I expected. It’s definitely not a feel good read, but Eoin Colfer has brought creativity and quality to the table.
Graphic: Death, Death of parent, and Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Child abuse, Child death, Gun violence, Violence, Vomit, Police brutality, Grief, and Car accident

I credit this book with being one of the first ones that inspired me to take novel writing seriously and attempt science fiction, so some bias probably exists!
Eoin Colfer's storytelling was phenomenal and able to describe a different futuristic world easily without being heavy-handed on the descriptions. It gives room for the reader to really dive into the world and use their own imagination. While not too complex, it's intriguing and reminds us to always re-evaluate what we know. It's never too late to change sides or do the right thing.

This is one of my favorite shorter novels. It’s rare to have such awesome world-building alongside a gripping plot and all under 300 pages to boot! Colfer is simply a magical writer.

Fairly interesting. I wasn't blown away by the characters or the plot, but I wasn't bored either. I would recommend The Wish List over this one though.
