You know where it is going the whole time but you get drawn into Ivo's story and can't help but think of what other possibilities he could have! Loved the A to Z flow if the story - a great layout for a novel.

Oh Sheila. Hospice nurses really are just the best!
What an interesting beautiful way to write a book!

Fave Quotes:

“Surround yourself with as many people like that as you can—that’s what I think. Energy givers. Life lovers. People who make you feel most like yourself.”

“People can go through their whole lives without rethinking something..”

I enjoyed this book. It wasn't the best, but by the end, I felt for the characters, and was sad. This was just a book that I picked up cheap at a used book store. It wasn't the best, but it was ok. I got confused at some parts. I didn't know what was happening based on how the novel was written. Overall, it was just ok.

A beautiful and thought-provoking read. Many tears at the end (and maybe still right now as I write this). This story will really make you appreciate all that you have and have had. Looking forward to seeing more from the author.

I have never cried this much at a book. The themes of tragic loss, wrong paths and ((especially)) end of life care really touched quite raw nerves of mine. There were elements to the plot that angered me; I just wanted to shake Ivo and tell him to walk away from the toxic people he calls his friends, but evidently his retrospective retelling of events is the characters way of doing this himself. I truly loved reading this book, even if it broke my heart.

Quietly devastating. I'm not sure if that's a description I've read of this book or whether I've just made it up but whatever - it's the perfect description.

James Hannah has come up with an interesting way of telling his story. While Ivo is in hospital, he thinks of a body part for each letter of the alphabet, and a related story. In this way we learn slowly about him, his family, friends and the love of his life. I've seen this described as quirky which in my book can mean twee - it's anything but. Just as we are getting to know Ivo and empathise with him and his plight, he drops a little nugget of information into one of his stories that fells you with a punch to the guts.

It made me cry - more than once. Fantastic character, excellent writing, a clever structure - this is going to stay with me a long time.

I had actually never heard of this before, no one recommended it to me, I just randomly picked it up from the library which I rarely do but it was SO GOOD! Really well-written, it made me emotional and I was so invested. I absolutely recommend this and wish it got more attention!
