3.0

There were parts in this book I immensely enjoyed. For one, the cave sequence reminded me of an all time favourite horror flick of mine: The Descent. I would have liked Mott to spend much more time in the claustrophobic dark with Them.
Also the element of solving the mystery was enjoyable.

I could have done without the (anti)biblical ending, though. It felt too quick and a bit anticlimactic. For me, the threat and the dread in the darkness could have been more detailed and some of the conversations and side stories (bishop etc) could have been shortened or left out entirely.
