Beautifully illustrated, it is a good story with a good lesson, but it is very short. Our family made a dramatized recording of this to play for our relatives one year, and we had a lot of fun with it. It came out very good, if I say so myself.

I really enjoyed this story, as I always love stories about children bringing about a change of heart in crotchety people, but this one gets 4 stars instead of 5 because it was extremely predictable.

I adore picture books where the illustrations are as important as the text and this a wonderful, seasonal example of just that! A excellent resource for any primary classroom with lots of scope for practicing prediction and inference skills, this book is sure to prompt many rich discussions, especially with pupils aged 8+
