Vlad is an eighth grade boy who steers through the hurdles of life. As well as, the added pressure of hiding his vampire traits. Very good book!

Vladimir Tod is like any normal teenage boy.
Except he’s a vampire.
Junior high really stinks for thirteen year old Vladimir Tod. Bullies harass him, the principle is dogging him, and the girl he likes prefers his best friend. Oh, and Vlad has a secret: His mother was human, but his father was a vampire. With no idea of the extent of his powers and no one to teach him, Vlad struggles with his blood cravings and his enlarged fangs. When a strange substitute teacher begins to question him a little too closely, Vlad worries that his cover is about to be blown. But then he realizes he has a much bigger problem: He’s being hunted by a vampire killer who is closing in… fast!
The characters were believable, and, more importantly, likeable. Vladimir Todd is your average teenage kid, who struggles with average teenage problems, except for the fact that he’s a vampire. Sometimes you forget he’s anything but human, and the fact that he snacks on packets of blood seems perfectly normal after a while. Brewer did an amazing job with her debut novel.
Plot-wise, it was unlike anything I’d ever read and that was ultimately refreshing. Truth be told, I was getting tired of vampire romance, so I was glad that this book has a larger, more complex and much more engaging plotline than most you’ll find.
Amazing read. 5 stars.

I got this book from the library when I was really in the mood for something light and fun. I knew it was for children / obviously you can guess it when you read the title. And to be honest, this book came just at the right time because I'm on my summer break, I have a lot of spare time and I'm trying to catch up with my Goodreads Reading Challenge. So to have a book on my Summer Reading List with just a little bit more than 200 pages (I read it in german) was perfect timing.
I quiet enjoyed this book! I expected it to be about a young vampire going to school and dealing with lots of "small" problems. I expected it to be more embarrassing and I did not expect that much thrill.
It was just great. It obviously surprised me because yeah sure Vlad had to deal with typical High School problems like having a crush on a girl, finding the courage to ask a girl to go to the dance with him, having two older boys bullying you and, well, being a vampire but there was a great and thrilling leading story. It wasn't just all great and light but there were actual problems to be solved.
Another thing I really liked was that I wasn't sure if Otis Otis would turn out to be a nice person in the end or not. Of course we knew about D'Ablo since the beginning and Vlad only figured out about him halfway into the story, but I was never quiet sure if he (Otis) wasn't a bad guy after all.
To put it in a nutshell, there was more to the book than I expected, I loved the story, I loved the characters and I loved the uncertainty.

A pretty standard edgy-teen fiction novel. I loved it when I was the target audience, and upon rereading in my 20's still see the charm that I once loved, though now I also see the lack of genuine substance. It's very cliché, and acknowledges as much, but hey, clichés are popular for a reason. It's fun to read.
