What a book! So well written I could not put it down. Damien Boyd is a masterful author - the storyline is intricate and is revealed as the story develops. Excellent characters too and its good to see Dixon getting promoted

From the Ashes by Damien Boyd is book 14 in the DCI Nick Dixon series. Love this series and eagerly await each new book. An unexplained death becomes much more and becomes very complex. The evidence that turns up is a shock to some of those in the story. I like the relationship of Nick and Jane, his partner, and the interaction between the rest of his team. Always gripping reads and this is no exception. Nick is someone I would like if he was a real person and the same with Jane.

Up there as a contender for book of the series.
I really enjoyed the twists and turns of the case, which unravelled the past from over two decades ago.

When I initally read the first book in this series I DNF'd it, I really struggled with it because it was very technical in the beginning. I didn't understand the technicality of it, so put it aside. I went back to it a few months later and was very glad I did. As I worked my way through the book the technical jargon reduced significantly and once I got passed that I started to really enjoy it, so much so that I bought the next book in the series as soon as I could.
I really enjoy Damien's writing style, his use of humour and his ability to integrate lots of twists and turns in his writing. These books just keep getting better and better and this one did not disappoint. Would highly recommend.

This was an interesting entry into this series. I love the characters. Nick has been promoted and is leading a regional task force looking into the deaths of a rising number of individuals. Nick is at his best in figuring out who committed the murders. I enjoyed the banter between Nick and Jane. The story had a satisfying conclusion. I listened to this book on audio. The narrator is excellent. I would highly recommend this book and series. While it is not essential to read the books in order, I would think you would get the most enjoyment by doing so.
