with it being only 139 pages, I expected it to be really difficult to understand without external aids, but this was captivating and easy to read and understand, which I appreciate. it's very scary how easily things went downhill from where it began and I hope people get the correct messages from this story.

a short but reflective read that mimics the russian revolution through a collective group of farm animals. i wish i had read this book back when it was required for some high schools, as mine did not study this book, but having read it now still has left an impact on me. i think this is something that everyone should read at one point in their lives. 5/5 stars

Animal Farm was published in 1945 as an allegorical novel about the Soviet Union & communism, but as I read it, it reminded me a lot more of the capitalistic greed we see today. Being overworked and underpaid, losing benefits (such as retirement), working hard just to make already rich CEOs richer - these are super familiar to me as a 20-something living in the U.S.

It was really interesting yet frustrating to read Animal Farm through that lens. As interesting as it was to see those comparisons, it was much more frustrating to come to terms with the fact that things have gotten so much worse over the years. It’s frustrating to see these same issues not be addressed throughout history because the powers that be will do just about anything for more money, more yachts, more everything.

I hope more people read novels like Animal Farm and truly learn from them. I hope it angers them as much as it angered me. And I hope in time, we can use that anger and frustration to do some good.

All I can say after finishing this book is that everyone should read it if they can. Animal Farm is one of those classics that offers a timeless, universal warning about totalitarian regimes. It's an excellent allegory that delves into the consequences of corrupted Communism and how the rich will manipulate the working class. The usage of animals to retell The Russian Revolution and its aftereffects was near perfect, albeit heavy-handed if you ask me ( The latter didn't affect my enjoyment however ). It's an easy read with fast pacing, and I would recommend reading the introduction as well after finishing the story since it provides more insight into the political atmosphere back then.
