Lives of Girls and Women is a novel by Canadian Nobel Laureate Alice Munro. However, it reads more like a collection of short stories, chronologically arranged, which follow Del from childhood through to early adulthood. Unsurprisingly the writing was stellar. I especially loved the way Munro captured small details so perfectly. She was also really adept at encapsulating the universal essence of moving from girlhood to womanhood. The way Munro incrementally increased Del’s maturity from story to story and the way we could see her forming her sense of womanhood in relation to   the examples of her mother, her best friend and other women in the community were other highlights.
