This was good but I liked the first installment better. I never got fully sucked in to this one and found bits hard to follow because of it. The writing is still good and I like the characters and the final chapters. I just wasn't as invested throughout.

With how the last one ended on a cliffhanger where we’re unaware of Ning’s fate, I was super excited to get right back into the story and find out what happens next. So imagine my pleasant surprise when the first chapter is actually Kang’s and that we’re getting dual povs! Right from the bag we’re told the resulting information of his actions in what happened although you also get the sense that he didn’t know the depth of his fathers actions.
Leasing from this, by the end of the book you just feel sorry for Kang since he lost absolutely everything.

Overall, I really enjoyed the whole story and how they set out to defeat the serpent and the challenges along the way. It was also refreshing how it continued to have the romance as a subplot, making the ending and epilogue just that much better.
