While it was a very fun read that I didn’t want to put down, there were some parts that felt cringey and like it wouldn’t happen in real life, if that makes sense.

This book was fine. It was like a Hallmark movie for books—predictable but enjoyable enough.

I honestly was kind of disappointed with this one. Derek and Teagan had such a good history to base the story off of, and it’s like it wasn’t used. We were constantly being told how good of friends they were and then only got 1 or 2 flashback scenes, so their friends to lovers plot feel flat. Them each having daughters was such unique dynamic to add to the book, but only ever HEARD how their relationship was instead of actually seeing it, so again, hard to believe. I’ll also add the fact that Teagan and Everly’s relationship was such a quick turn around and not believable or relatable at all. The ‘tape’ storyline was also frequently brought up and raised tension, and then in the end when it came down to it, it was very anticlimactic. In focusing on Teagan and Derek’s romantic relationship, it honestly came out of nowhere and was rushed. Yeah, they were friends, but they hadn’t spoken for THIRTEEN YEARS, it’s insane that author had them essentially pick up where they left off. It was far too rushed. Overall I’d give it a 2.5-3 star rating ✨

I could NOT put this book down. Typical boy and girl are best friends but neither know the other "love" them in that way. One moves away only to move back years later and you can guess the rest. I've read so many books like this and fall for them every time. I enjoyed the plot in this book and just didn't want to stop until that happy ending.

Also, my first Corinne Michaels' book. Loved it!

"From the New York Times bestselling author of One Last Time comes a breathtaking story about first love, second chances, and starting over.

Timing is everything...

As the head cheerleader at her small-town high school Teagan never expected to become best friends with Derek, the cute, shy son of the town veterinarian. Over the years, even though Tegan was dating the star of the football team, she couldn't hide her growing feelings for Derek. But just as Teagan is finally ready to confess her feelings for Derek, she finds out she is pregnant, and Derek has moved on.

It was only after he married his college sweetheart that Derek realized that he was in love with his best friend Teagan. Determined to do what was best for his family, he cut Teagan out of his life. Thirteen years later, still harboring guilt for his failed marriage and his wife's death in a tragic accident, Derek finds himself back in his hometown with his daughter.

When it seems that fate has given them a second chance, Derek and Teagan realize it might finally be their time. Just as Derek and Teagan's happily ever after comes into focus, Teagan is offered the chance of a lifetime-to start a new life with her daughter, something she's wanted for years. But now that Derek is back in her life, it's not so easy to pick up and leave. Just when she finally has something real, can she leave it for her own dreams?"-Goodreads

Teagan is a thirty something single mother who lives in the same small town she was raised in. As a high school student, cheerleader Teagan only wanted to hang around with the popular students, often shunning those who were not as popular. Keith, now a professional football player, was her boyfriend and the father of her now 13 year old daughter. Teagan’s best friend in school, however, was Derek who wasn’t in the popular crowd. But he was her rock - that is, until the day Derek’s wife Meghan had found his journal which proclaimed his love for Teagan during their high school days. Meghan, who also went to school with Teagan, became unnerved and instructed Derek never to talk to or see Teagan again. That was until Meghan’s death six months ago, and his decision to return to his hometown to assist with his father’s veterinary practice. Will Teagan forgive him for cutting him out of his life?

All I Ask is a story about learning from, and accepting, the decisions we make in life. It’s also about holding onto your dreams and continuing to strive to ensure you have what you need in life.

I enjoyed the book, but found it to be a little slow in places. The story is told in the dual perspective of both Teagan and Derek, and in dual time frames of “then” and “now”. I purchased the audiobook through Audible and enjoyed the performances of Savannah Beachwood and Teddy Hamilton. There are a few light steamy scenes which I mention only to warn more sensitive readers. I recommend this book to readers of contemporary romance.

It was good, a nice, fast read, but nothing that will stick with me.
