This book was so fucking dumb!! To the point where I'm questioning how it even got published. There were so many things that didn't make sense, I don't understand how anyone was able to get past them enough to even enjoy the story. The main character, Sydney, has shockingly poor investigative skills for someone who claims to be an investigative journalist. She didn't think to establish a timeline from the woman alibiing the suspect??? She decided it was a good idea to release a documentary before knowing how it would end??? She "investigated" for a YEAR before filming started and didn't think to read though the court documents, or talk to a medical examiner, or talk to any of the family or friends??? There's no closure on the main case, there's no closure on Sydney's dad's case, and I find it difficult to believe there was enough evidence to convict Ellie when surely she would have been at work, you know, at the busy hospital where she would have been surrounded by people. Sydney's murder was the most egregious part of the whole book though. Somehow Sydney, a spry, young person, was unable to protect herself from a disabled man who's muscles have atrophied??? IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!!!!!!

some parts kind of dragged and felt a little superfluous, but overall the story was really engaging. it was interesting to see how everything unfolded, and how the different pieces of the story connected.

First prologue / chapter was written poorly, jarring descriptions that either didnt make sense or had no flow. Felt very stilted and awkward. Didn’t feel the need to continue

I love a good thriller, and this is exactly that - a decent thriller. I didn’t find the ending as twisty and shocking as other readers. In fact, I predicted the ending from the first half of the book. But what I did enjoy was the court room drama style of the documentary, the unlikely friendship between Gus and Sidney, and the investigation of all the clues that other thrillers don’t always give you. I found the style to be more of a beach/airport read, which made me excited to read more Donlea on my next trip, but the nature of the writing for me, remains only a vacation read.

Loved most of the book, hated the ending. Very much unfinished and too many questions.
