Even though summer isn't for another three months, the sequel of Golden Boys was well-needed, especially to close off the stories of Gabe, Sal, Reese, and Heath.

As the reader gets reintroduced to the four boys, not much has changed since the ending of Golden Boys—the end of summer and the start of senior year. Remember how my own senior year was, it's a kind of reminiscence of the hecticness of it all, wondering if the group of friends that I was so close with now still be tight in the next chapter of life. (Sadly, in my case, it wasn't...)

Instead of being very linear, the author takes the reader into four different paths, thinking everyone's got everything figured out. As you're getting near the end of senior year, everything that was once certain isn't, which is part of life.
