I wanted more - great build up. Loved the characters. Great tone/mood, complicated relationships.
Two women - grandmother and granddaughter, their lives entwined by their ancestor.
Deidre's grandmother had been burned as a witch, after a preacher came to town. She spurned his advances - he brought her death in revenge.
In 1881, he returns - determined to impregnant Deidre, Gentry stalks his prey. Even after she moves to Charleston, Deidre cannot escape.
1931 - It is Gracelynn's turn. Belleflower comes to town - creating chaos. And a debilitating drought.
Both women use their ancestor's grimoire with the hope of saving themselves and those they love.

Really enjoyed this book! Was a kindle unlimited read/audio. Overall I loved how powerful and magical generations of women in this family were all connected in more ways than just blood. This is a wonderful and atmospheric read that would be great for a spooky season book!

I was drawn in from the beginning. I had so much fun working my way through the story, trying to figure out how characters were related and what was going on with all of these sleazy preachers. Dierdre’s 1881 timeframe was my favorite to follow, but it was so interesting traveling back and forth through the perspectives of different generations!

I started reading the author’s other book right after finishing this one! Love her style and the historical influence.
