2 stars - mostly because I don't give 1 star reviews unless I truly hate something.

I was very excited to read this after it was recommended to me by another Stephen King fan ...but WOW, was this a disappointment. An interesting premise absolutely swallowed up by boring, 2-dimensional characters and a meandering plot drawn out over several chapters too many, culminating in an ending was both predictable and infuriating.

The first and main thing I didn't like about this book was the huge list at the beginning of the cast of characters. It was almost enough to keep me from reading. I did read it, but I didn't like it as much as other SK novels. That's the problem being Stephen King. Every book is compared to the previous ones. If this were some off the wall author I'm pretty sure I would have given it better than 3 stars.

Classic Stephen King, though you can definitely hear the second voice of his son, Owen. They make a great storytelling team, and hopefully this will be the first of many collaborations.

I had a major concern that this novel would become a bit too biblical for my liking, but it didn't! There were mentions of Eve/Adam/the Garden of Eden/etc. but it didn't go beyond that. I enjoyed that it also wasn't predictable. I read a lot, so often times novel plots get a bit repetitive and predictable. I also think that by co-writing with Owen, Stephen King's writing (which tends to be a bit wordy at times) was more flushed out.

Lastly, I greatly appreciated the subtle drop of "Joe Hill" novels. It was a great nod to Stephen King's [other] son & Owen King's brother.
