Trigger warnings: war, explosions, death, gun violence, colonialism
I had high hopes for this, I really did. Gallipoli is so utterly engrained in the Australian psyche as the origin of our national identity that I was looking forward to reading about the Turkish side of things.
Unfortunately, this proved to be less of an examination of the impact of Gallipoli on Turkey as a whole and more of a blow-by-blow military history. And, like, if I'd known that's what it was before I started reading, I probably wouldn't have bothered because military history of this sort isn't at all my jam.
So while it was informative, it was also dry as hell and not at all what I was anticipating.
