Might pick this up again the future. It was just too slow for me. I can’t imagine reading this for another 700 pages

I always forget how good the second book in this series really is. I think it gets lost in my memory between
Ned's final scene and the dragons
in the first book and
the Red and Purple Weddings
in the third. But every time I listen to these books, I am always surprised by how much plot is covered in this installation. The pieces move at quick speeds and this book really highlights the confused loyalties in the War of Five Kings. I love the increase in number of characters and POV narrators. A lot of it is very careful table setting that, since this is something like my fifth re-read, I already know is going to pay off really well. This book has everything good about the first one and then makes it more frantic and more complex. I really, really enjoyed the politicking and the battles, and the strategy in both. This is a great books for the constant churning shuffle that Martin does so well. I know things are going to slow down in a book or two, but I love the energy of this particular book in the series.
