FIGARO: Want of good sense, you mean! We may be certain, Doctor, that when youth and love are at one anything that age may do to prevent them can only be described as a futile precaution.

The Barber of Seville: 4 stars.
The Marriage of Figaro: 3 stars.
'The Barber of Seville' was a lot of fun to read, very comical and full of intrigue. The sequel, 'The Marriage of Figaro', was less amusing, in part because I found it to be exceedingly complicated. A nice lighthearted read.

In this house we stan sassy French playwrights, even if they do include the following in their plays:
(a) untranslatable puns
(b) a ridiculous plot twist in the sequel play that means you can never see the original play the same way again, damnit
(c) a 4-page monologue to try and distract you from that ridiculous plot twist
(d) some fairly sexist views re:relationship dynamics
(e) all of the above
I hesitated between giving this 3 or 4 stars...I think I would give The Barber of Seville 4 stars and The Marriage of Figaro 3 stars, so let's split the difference and call it 3.5.
