She worshipped my body like the God she did not believe in, the sharp sting of her bites shocking pleasure through my veins. Blood stained my body; her presence stained my soul.
“Come with me,” she repeated, with all the ardor of our nightly passions. “Come with me, even unto death, my darling, darling—” Her lips stole mine. We kissed in the daylight, in full view of my home, but instead of running, I clung to her. Carmilla’s fragile form pressed against mine, held by my own limited strength.
Against my lips, she whispered, “Laura, how I love you.”
By God, I loved her too.
But truthfully, I sought the greatest horror of them all. Despite my denial, I courted death; I made love to death.
I am crying tears of joy that I found this book
