I cannot express how much I love this book and how well it uses vampirism to deal with different issues such as race, gender, consent, and abuse. Fuck I loved it so much.

Crying in H Mart and Anne Rice had a literary baby? 

So many gorgeous themes represented in this vampire story. Generational trauma, trauma of being of mixed race and finding yourself, eating disorders, loneliness, assault, and toxic relationships. Wild that so much was packed into this! Sometimes i felt like it was never ending loathing/depression/loneliness- which you expect some in a “vampire” story- but this felt like the main focus of the story and it made it hard to get through. I think for me, I turn to vampire stories to read about liberation and freedom

thankfully, the ending did give me what I really wanted- thank god.

The pacing is a bit odd, but I really enjoyed it! For most of the book it's a lot of boredom and inaction and at the end stuff gets more fast-paced (which could have been a bit longer maybe but still really cool). Interesting read!
