There’s a long tradition of novels about teenage girls suffering mental illness and this fits nicely into the genre. I was captivated throughout and loved Juliet’s voice. But perhaps being the next in a long line of books with similar subject matter means you expect something more. Escoria is married to Scott McClanahan and I feel like I know them both intimately as their fiction feels so personal. I don’t of course but still it’s an interesting feeling.

I’m really glad i read this. borrowed from a friend in my pursuit of madwomen books— reminds me of girl, interrupted but with a more straightforward, tic tac style narrative (one spurt at a time). especially loved the letters from the future and the doctors notes, scans of hospital bracelets etc. getting out of the hospital i am wondering what to do with some of the literature i received, and this gave me an interesting direction when im at the point that i can make sense of it. this was great

Just wasn’t gripping me; wasn’t invested in the character.
