This was just so good I had nightmares about this being my reality. This isn't horror but it sure fucking felt like it

This is the last one in John Marsden's Tomorrow When the War Began series.
It focused more on Ellie as she was captured and held prisoner by the invading forces. Throughout most of the book we don't know if the rest of her group of friends is alive or dead which was kind of off putting. And the end seems kind of abrupt but they may be in part because after 7 books I wasn't quite ready to say goodbye to the group.

There is another three book series, The Ellie Chronicles which focuses on Ellie's life after the war, I'm not sure if I'll try and track them down and read them. I really like the character but I think I may like the group as a whole better.

This would be an excellent series for a male reader. Even though the narrator, Ellie, is a girl I think there is more than enough action to make it palatable for a boy to read.

One of the most unsatisfying endings of any book ever. Read the 3 books in the Ellie Chronicles as they finish the story so much neater.

But all in all it was a brilliant series.
