Received this book in a First Reads giveaway! I remember almost scrolling right by it but found the cover art interesting, so I read one of the example excerpts in the book's description. It was the following:

"Across the street, a woman
sits on the patio with her back
to the sun. All you can see is the
round white globe of her skull.
She is having some trouble with
her insides. If you could speak
you would ask her about the
people she swallowed."
(pg. 22 The Great Divide)

I knew, then, that I couldn't just pass this one by. I am not a person who will often sit down and read a book of poetry, though I do appreciate it as an art form, so it speaks volumes about the book that I read it all in one gulp. It is the epitome of a diamond in the rough. A mere 24 pages with a card stock cover, I hardly noticed what was in my hands as I flew through the words of the poems.

The style has that raw, stream of consciousness that is very modern. The poems illustrate a grim, sublime, and deranged self-portrait of the author's mind and observations. The first half especially captivated me. I think many will find a kindred spirit in these pages, as I did. I definitely look forward to reading what Ms. Kelly Fordon works on in the future.
