I loved this duology and the world it takes place in. My only gripes are
Signe and Dal not getting a happy ending
and how fast paced everything was. I think if this was stretched across 3 to 4 books and learned more about the world I would've loved it more. This book and series was very action/plot based, which isn't bad I enjoyed it, but I would've loved more culture information.

I was really struggling to get into this book at about the 30% mark. Based on the ending of the first book, this did not go where I thought it would/wanted it to. This should have been the Wilder War ending with Corwin becoming king.

Instead, we skip ahead 2 years, the was is over and Kate and Corwin have been apart almost that entire time thanks to assumed death. So, we end up getting the same plot of the two characters needing to find their way back to each other that we already got in the first book.

Once I was struggling, I read the one star reviews and saw spoilers and now that I know how this ends, I can't be bothered to force myself to finish this. I already thought Kate had become unlikeable and it sounds like it does not get better. Plus, all the wonderful friendships from the first book just get thrown in the trash, this is just Kate and Corwin being angsty about the other.

I cannot lie—when I started “Onyx & Ivory,” I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. After reading book one, I HAD to buy the sequel. “Shadow & Flame” has a rep of being “darker” than the first book. To which I agree, but I also found myself captivated by the story. I have enjoyed the story of Kate, Corwin, Signe, Bonner, and Dal. Phenomenal read for me!

Just an absolutely wonderful book. So intensely emotional and action packed. Did not suffer from second book syndrome at all. It broke my heart and rebuilt it at least three times. Just great.
