It's hard to say for this one. I loved how practically nothing changed from the first two books but you could still really feel the story moving forward, but that being said, it felt like it was almost rushing but the pace was still the same if that makes sense. Like she just threw random stuff on a wheel titled "who dies?" Don't get me wrong. Still an amazing book but I'm unsure if it's as good as they other two. I wish there was more in this series but I did like all of the little bows she was able to tie in this. Good book.

I liked this book as much as I liked previous books in the series (which is to say a little), but I finished it feeling unsatisfied. It didn’t feel like a finale book. I’m left with so many questions about the more mystical parts of the worldbuilding.

I don’t think the main character really went through much of an arc throughout this series. Stuff just sorta happened to her and she reacted, but it didn’t change her in a satisfying way.

I loved this book! My only reason for 4 stars instead of three is because it didn’t feel finished to me. It felt like there was more to the story. I would recommend this series however.

Before really getting into the book, I stopped to ask Mums a very important question because I had to know if I was right about Mark dying. Because of course he does. Mm, and of course Jessie's pregnant and sigh. Just sigh. My kingdom for half stars because this would be a 3.5, I think for that (some characters appear and you just know they won't make it out of the series alive) and also for the fact that there's definitely more story to be told here, even if it's not Joy's story.

I read this trilogy because I like the ideas of this world and wanted to see where there the author would take it. Unfortunately, it's disappointing across the board. What you get is a meandering plot, underdeveloped characters and an ending that is pointless, Deus ex machina and doesn't resolve anything. A better author would probably have taken this trilogy as the first one to two books, and take this story so much further, develop the character and show how the issues would be resolved.

I was happy that this book answered the questions of what really was going on with the folk mages and other outsiders. It did become a bit obvious who was going to be the evil one though. I was also happy with the last battle: it wasn't just a massive fight. Seeing Joy make the golden mage so mad by taunting him was hilarious. I'm sad though that there doesn't seem to be another book after this one. The evil traitor is still out there, and it also still bothers me how in the dark the citizens of Apex are kept about what's really going on.
