I had no idea that Sri Lanka has such a turbulent recent history. Other than this, it is a somewhat uninteresting story, beautifully told.

It seemed all over the place. It kept jumping from one place to another without seeming to be going any place in particular.

I started The English Patient once, and never really understood the fuss, but this is beautiful. Sad, as one would expect from a book about a forensic anthropologist set during a civil war. But beautiful. A lot of different threads and stories and people woven together, and still a lot of questions left hanging at the end.

This was often difficult to follow as an audio book, since I had many starts and stops. The connections and relationships seemed a little overly complicated because of it, and my Sri Lankan knowledge was non-existant before I read/listened to the book. I would actually call it 3+ stars. The ending is worth it though!
