This is my second read from Claire Keegan and it won't be my last. I love her somewhat spare prose style and the emotion it brings to her stories.

this book is so homey and literally made me feel like i was a child in my great grandmas backyard down the street i can’t explain it because i was not a poor irish girl in a foster home but the way they treat her and take her in is just so warm and sweet like this little girl just didn’t know better and was happy with whatever was her situation at any moment KIDS ARE SO INNOCENT MAN i will literally have a nervous breakdown and start crying in the work bathroom if i think about it enough and these foster parents just treated her like she’s always deserved AND I’M A MESS OVER IT just the most lovely little snapshot of a short story - it’s about change and temporality, and things ending, and family situations stifling you, and who you’re surrounded with, and IT’S JUST EVERYTHING . IN 89 PAGES. it’s perfect for the beginning of summer and i will be going back to read it every time i want a little escape - but i’m skipping the ending and living in the 70%ish mark

(Maybe 4.5, but I'm rounding up because I've decided I quite like Claire Keegan. An author to watch!)
