Order Of Scorpions by Ivy Asher

This was three stories in one. A dark tale of survival as Auset lived as property to be broken down and beaten, only to find strength in the darkness and the killing to hold on and desire freedom (or at least welcome death). A story of learning to trust and accept fate and find that the world is more than she thought with the help of her Scorpion mates. And lastly, a story of lost identity, a search for answers as to who she was, and finding that where you come from may not always be better than where you ended up.

Auset fights for everything, learns to accept that there are others that will fight by her side, and learns that sometimes true freedom comes in giving yourself over to trust in fate and a trio of mates willing to kill for you.

Order of Scorpions (standalone) was the first book Iโ€™ve read by author Ivy Asher and let me tell you, WOW. This book absolutely had me kicking my feet and gasping. Between the spice and the incredibly descriptive world building, I absolutely loved it. This was also a first for me in terms of tropes, although I didnโ€™t go into this book realizing that it was more of a why choose, I actually thoroughly enjoyed it! I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy thatโ€™s fast-paced, action packed and is a why choose romance.

This was so freaking good! Itโ€™s rare we get a RH fantasy standalone and I think this book had a plan, it executed that plan, and wrapped up beautifully!!

Asher does give warnings at the front of the book, this is a dark fantasy romance and Iโ€™m either numb to the violence or Iโ€™ve read more disturbing things on page but I donโ€™t think the violence was that bad, itโ€™s more on the uncensual side but best believe our girl did not forget a single thing that happened to her!

Her story was intense, it was mysterious, her internal thoughts and struggles were warranted and the love story was top tier!!!!!

The menโ€™sโ€ฆ.i immediately fell for the golden retriever lol I had fun figuring out which dog personality would fit who, and weโ€™ve got a Golden, a German Sheppard and a Plothoundโ€ฆnow what that means youโ€™ll have to just read and find out. But just know they were 10 toes strong in their mate and I was here for the freaking ride!!!!

This was intense

I knew I wanted to read this book when it first came out. Now that I have finished it I am so glad that I read it. I loved this. Right front eh beginning I was hooked on needing to know who Auset was, and where she came from. And I read I came up with ideas, and thoughts to fill that answer in. But I was not expecting that. Not one bit. If your not sure about reading this, give it a shot.

Really enjoyed this and was glad it was a standalone, though given the length, it did kinda feel like 3 short books in one.

First third - waking up caged until the Bidding - I was SUPER engaged and flew through it.

Middle felt like it slogged a bit. I do appreciate thoughtful healing journeys that are often slow and nonlinear. However, it got repetitive and a little boring

Final third - interesting but also a little anticlimactic. Frankly I donโ€™t want a crazy โ€˜queen of the worldโ€™/all powerful fae type story so Iโ€™m glad this didnโ€™t go there. But I feel like it was reaching to a big conspiracy to tie up all the loose ends and it didnโ€™t quite hit.
Neith shouldโ€™ve murdered everybody. The scorpions shouldโ€™ve consulted THEIR FUCKING ANCIENT ASS MOM FRIEND WHO LITERALLY FOUGHT IN THE ANCIENT WAR when they were trying to get clues.
๐Ÿ™„

There shouldโ€™ve been more Eacon. We really didnโ€™t get much of her interacting with her Scorpions and she wouldโ€™ve been so compelling to drive the plot forward in the latter half of the book

The powers are all cray and yet also get kinda glossed over? Like yโ€™all are all crazy powerful andโ€ฆthatโ€™s it? You just kill super well? Odd

Really cared for Auset and found her most compelling. The guys were a little flat but also were just simps for her which seems fine (I donโ€™t really need lore).
So yeah I liked it
