Well then.
What I liked:
  • I guess they were kinda cute...
  • Mainly, I liked the parts where they were vulnerable with each other and when they kept their miscommunication to a minimum (if u don't count the 8 months of obliviousness before the action of the book)
What I disliked:
  • From the beginning, I had trouble getting into the story / the book, mainly because I was so confused. There were references I didn't understand, full sentences, jargon etc. I wondered if that was because English isn't my first language or some other reason. Often there was also some stuff I didn't get in the context, which led me to the conclusion that the author apparently assumed the reader also read the first three books in the series. But, alas, I did not and will not. (Side Note: this doesn't change through the book. It was like that from the first sentence (I shit u not I still don't understand it) until the last one, and at least once a chapter for good measure.)
  • Kay. What the heck is her deal. As I mentioned, I didn't read the first three books about her and Mason (the book description said in was a standalone and I treated it as such). At about 10% of the book I thought the following: Why are they treating her (Kay) like the leader of their alphabet club? Here is why:
»[…] yet I know the true significance of being labeled a letter to those closest to Kay.« (p. 39 of the kindle ebook)
Another thing:
»Grant was also the person to drive home how rare it is for Kay to offer her friendship to people.« (p. 291 of the kindle ebook)
  • I mean... Is it? There were so many side characters, all of which were friends of Kay (who is, like, the connector of the friend group), that I was unable to keep track of them. There must have been about twenty (could be an exaggeration but also not...)
  • The Instagram stuff also confused me but that is in every book that includes this stuff. I'm too much of a recluse for that...

Tropes: Jock / Nerd, roommates / forced proximity
Triggerwarning: bullying

Off topic / post scriptum: BJs are the most disgusting thing in the world and I will die on that hill.
