I had no idea what to expect from this book — heard very mixed reviews, and I’m honestly quite surprised i enjoyed it as much as I did. I was definitely nervous about the violence.

I think what made me rlly enjoy it so much is that I related to Lily so well — in her personality and her thoughts, that I resonated with her (and her overwhelming, confusing thoughts that sometimes make her spiral). I also appreciate how Colleen Hoover tackled the theme of a complicated relationship and how things are not always black and white; I know some people think that’s over-glamourising the violence, but Lily’s decision towards the end proves otherwise.

I spent most of Part 2 of the book sobbing just from how much I empathised with Lily. It was a good, emotional read.

I listened to this audiobook with my husband after we watched the movie. I had read the book twice and had rated it five stars in the past.
But after listening to the narration of the book, I have to admit the writing and the plot of this book is not as great as I remember it being. 🫠
It makes me think that you can change your opinion about a book as you grow into a different type of reader, and it’s okay to not love a book as much as you did in the past.
I don’t know if the movie kinda ruined the version I had of it in my head or if I just outgrew this type of writing.
