Mixed feelings. Unsure if this should be listed as romance

3.5 out of 5 Stars: I picked up this book after seeing the movie. I think the author's note at the end and the resources are so important. I did relate to some of Lily's worry with her mom with what she witnessed.

Her story is one that needs to be told so others know, they're not alone, that not everything is black and white with love, and getting free.
I did love the quote Lily's mom said, "Don't let hAim, make you forget your limit."
That being said some small things bothered me, is repetitive parts like expressing how good "Ryle looks in his scrubs, or _ article of clothing. I understood why things were stated to enforce things, but it did drive me crazy.

The thing I loved most in this book was not the romances, but her friendship with  Allysa the way you meet your best friend and just know. The way she supported Lily in every step of the way. Main reason why I will pick up the next book, but it did not turn into a CoHo fan, but this book will resonate with people that have dealt or been in the experience whether it is personally, parents, or other family members.

While some of the reviews state that the themes were to harsh or explicit, shows. I also loved the movie in it's own way with the age up, and letting Lily define herself as more than a victim, survivor, we are faceted, and though we experience or go through things, it does not have to be our whole definition.

i think this story had a lot of potential, i just don’t think CoHo was the best author to execute it. this might be controversial, but i liked the movie better if for no other reason than it just had better flow and storytelling.
i like that colleen hoover isn’t afraid of telling a difficult story; the book was raw, real, unfortunately relatable in some ways. i’m not a hater, i just would’ve loved the book instead of just feeling meh if it was better written.

Hmmm... I wanted to like this book after all the hype and the recent movie adaptation but it missed the mark for me. After reading the author notes, I have a better understanding of where Colleen Hoover is coming from with this one. However, the soft approach to an important issue meant it was watered down.
