This one was a little hard to read both because it was somewhat choppy, and also because of the on-the-page abuse and suffering that Scarlett experienced, AND the devastating effects of parental addiction and mental illness on both Scarlett and Asaad experienced.
This was very much a deeply emotional, dark and brutal read. While Asaad and Scarlett were perfect for each other, and the way Asaad treated Scarlet was beautiful and healing, I’m not sure enough time or energy on the page was given to Scarlett healing from the severity of the trauma and assaults she had experienced for nearly a decade after her father died.
That said, this was a great start to a series and the author dropped enough nuggets that I’m definitely into this family and what comes next with them.
