To be honest, I read this book out of spite. 'Hell Bent' is one of my favourite episodes of Doctor Who and honestly, all of television. To see a constant barrage of stupid and unfair criticism thrown at this episode (not that it can't fairly be criticised) as well as it's writer, well, it hurts. I know it shouldn't, but it always does. So I thought a good remedy would be to read this book, my first look into the Black Archive series. A book about the complexities and the many successes of 'Hell Bent'.  Alyssa Franke presents an excellent discussion on the episode, touching on things that I loved about it as well as things I hadn't even considered. It's amazing to see such thoughtful, well written and nuanced writing on the show within Doctor Who fandom and I can't wait to blast through every book in this series.
