Sobbing, I don't know if being a parent and being surrounded by kids has just ruined me or if I was always this sensitive but man.

When a book about the internet tries this hard to be of-the-moment, it’s doomed to feel sliiightly behind the moment, inherently dated, a snapshot of a few minutes ago rather than a live feed. The time it takes to conceive of, write, publish, and market a novel like this is no match for the speed of the subject matter itself, sadly, and so the tongue-in-cheek / irony stuff didn’t quuuiiite land for me.

That being said, there’s a lot to appreciate here, and Lockwood’s frenetic prose-poetry builds to a surprisingly moving place.

I also just read Jenny Offill’s Weather, and the two made for an unintentionally fitting double-bill.

very fun pacing and the writing style was actually pretty enjoyable but a little too white feminist millennial humor to be tolerable for long

While I did not enjoy reading this, I know I’ll be thinking about it for a long time. Very ominous timing since I finished it as Roe v Wade was overturned

Edit: this was actually extremely forgettable. Would not recommend but it’s very possible that it went over my head

So good. So funny, and dark with it which I loved. It so beautifully captures the nuances and banality of the internet and what it really means to connect. I wanted to underline every other sentence. What a stunning book.

Well written, but not a book with a plot.
