I really wanted to like this book, it had potential. I made it half way through it and had to put it down. The story was taking so long to go somewhere exciting and the chapters just dragged on.

The grisly murder of a family sans the patriarch leads the town to believe that the husband is the culprit. But this deviation of character doesn't sit right with the investigator in Two Days Gone by Randall Silvis.

A well-liked local professor and bestselling author Thomas Huston has disappeared, presumably on the run, and is the prime suspect after his wife and three children are found bloodily murdered in their home, which leaves many people with a very different opinion of the man. Sergeant Ryan DeMarco had previously befriended Huston and while investigating the murders finds it difficult to believe that Huston would be capable of such violence. In trying to find the truth of the matter, DeMarco must investigate Huston's current novel in progress, prompting some dangerous leads.

Through the strongly developed story, the narrative moves quickly with details unfolding in a realistic and necessary pace to both keep building suspense and to provide a trickle of answers as a payoff to keep a reader invested. While the narrative started off strong, it lagged a bit toward the middle before picking up again for a good conclusion. Offering chapters with perspectives from both the hunter and the hunted, the narrative was able to round out the plot to explain the various whos and the whys of the mystery of why Huston's family was killed. There were many literary references I appreciated throughout the story, which was to be expected when one of the characters is an author intent on using an established work as a jumping off point for his novel; however, it did feel a little out of place in a few instances.

Not horrible, but I just didn’t care or connect with the characters. I felt bad for Delmarco and everything he’s been through, but the book still dragged for me.

The mind of an author .. you don't know what's hiding and raging in the twisted corners of their minds .
Written beautifully , almost poetic but mixed with suspense and savage events .
The complicity of the cheaters is unbelievable (in a good way) And still makes sense ( not too much and not understandable in other novels) +1 point for the sense of humor despite all of the darkness .
The lineout of the this novel is perfect and calculated , reveling parts and making you curious .
To be completely honest here I thought I figured the plot twist fully , I was wrong . Plot twist is a craft and that novel is an example on how to craft a beautifully written one . Enjoyed this novel to the fullest and DEFIANTLY looking forward to read more novels written by Randall Silvis

It took me quite a long time to write this review. I pondered every twist and turn of this book.

A man with a perfect job, a perfect family and a perfect life. In the blink of an eye, everything turns into dust. Whenever I think about this book, it always reminds me of how everything could be taken away from you in the blink of an eye.

It’s gripping and would keep you up at night. Just when I thought that the story would come to an end, another plot would come into play. I was heart broken and shocked by the ending. I really enjoyed reading this though. One of those books that would surely leave a mark.

I'm not sure how I feel about this book.  But the main character holds promise so I think I will try the next one.

This random book choice off the shelf actually was a decent mystery book that i was so invested in. Not invested in the details of the murders, cover your children’s ears for that part.
