When people talk about the controversial and dark content of a book like Lolita you're expecting something horrid, albeit being told from an unreliable narrator. The way that Oates gets into the mind and behavior of someone who is at the receiving end of this "relationship", and also writes without any sugarcoating or trying to make light of something so twisted, made me sit and read in shock and many points of this book.
Weirdly enough, it's something I would recommend others to read.
Don't read Lolita, if you have then, read Beasts!
I would give it a 4.9 because it comes close to perfection of something so horrible, but that's not an option.

This fever dream of a book has been living in my head rent free since I finished it. It’s bizarre, disturbing, and intense. You will not like any of the characters so if that’s important to you, don’t pick this up. Not a lot is said directly in this, but I think that’s what makes it feel more disturbing as you have to imagine a lot of what is happening. I highly recommend going back and re-reading the second chapter once you finish. There’s a lot to get out of seeing the start of the memory again after finishing it..
